claude maurer: born 65 in munich, grew up with designer parents, dorothee becker and ingo maurer. early contact with things Japanese thanks to my father’s travels. lived/studied in west-berlin, tokyo, cologne. three wonderful grown-up kids. worked as translator for Japanese to German and as web developer (used to type my own old-fashioned code til november 2025). in 2005, started to write texts for my father’s company, learning: how that company worked, how light and lamps were designed. from 2011 til 2021 general management with jenny lau (til 2014) and ingo (til 2019). very much hands-on. planing, manufacturing, selling extraordinary products. my focus: keeping the company up-to-date and innovative. something many colleagues didn’t like actually, to be honest. „you’re too honest.“ said an intern once. following the wish of my sister, the company was sold to all-male investors. for me a pause began, also due to the non-competition clause in the contract. // new projects will revolve about design, lighting, Japan, circularity // not really interested in design for the very ‚wealthy‘. really good design needs to be good for as many humans as possible and to all beings on this planet //
